New Year, New Savings - BOAT/U.S. credit card - Brief Article

What if you could save money every time you took your boat out? You can now. Whenever you use your BOAT/U.S. credit card to buy equipment and accessories at a BOAT/U.S. Marine Center, at the online store at www.boatus.com and through the catalog, you qualify for a 3% rebate. When you purchase services or repairs at one of our 500 Cooperating Marinas, you get a 3% rebate.

This rebate program is provided by MBNA America Bank, which issues the BOAT/U.S. credit card.

This means, for example, that if you use your BOAT/U.S. credit card to buy gas at a BOAT/U.S. Cooperating Marina that offers fuel discounts, you not only get 10 cents off per gallon, but you get a 3% rebate on top of that. If you buy dinner at that marina's restaurant with your credit card, you get another 3% rebate. If you take advantage of one of our weekly product specials at www.boatus.com and pay for it with your BOAT/U.S. credit card, you get an additional 3% rebate.

Think of the savings! This new BOAT/U.S. 3% credit card rebate is in addition to our Member Rewards program. Taking advantage of the special members-only discounts throughout the year could literally save you thousands of dollars.

What does this mean to you as a BOAT/U.S. member with a BOAT/U.S. credit card? If you spend $2,500 per year at a Marine Center, our online boating store, and through the catalog, you will save $75 through the new rebate program... more than four times your annual BOAT/U.S. membership fee. And you'll also get 10 Member Rewards coupons giving you another $100 to spend at those three BOAT/U.S. outlets. Boating more and spending less has never been easier.

There's not much "fine print" in this new program. The 3% rebate applies only to personal boating purchases, not commercial use. Each BOAT/U.S. credit card holder is limited to $1,200 in rebates per year, and you have to submit your rebate requests within 12 months of purchase.

The new rebate program is simple to use. Just circle all your BOAT/U.S. purchases on your MBNA credit card monthly statement, beginning with your January 2000 statement. Mail a copy of the statement to: BOAT/U.S. Rebate, MBNA America Mid-Atlantic MS 3273, 11333 McCormick Road, Hunt Valley, MD 21031, or fax to MBNA BOAT/U.S. Rebate Program at 410-229-6347.

If you don't have a BOAT/U.S. credit card, there's no better time to apply --just call 800-847-7378 and mention Priority Code DN4M or log on to the BOAT/U.S. Web site at www.boatus.com/member.

More Benefits for Members

* Welcome aboard to the Quantum Sail Design Group, now giving BOAT/U.S. sailors even more ways to save. With sail lofts throughout the country, Quantum is offering BOAT/U.S. members a 15% discount on sail repairs. Please check www.boatus.com/marina for locations.

* We've also added the Hertz Corporation to our rental car discount program, which means that BOAT/U.S. members now have three options for tremendous savings on car rentals. Call Avis, Budget or Hertz for special rates, using the Association's discount code.

Kids' Essay Winners

After carefully reading dozens of great essays from BOAT/U.S. kids on the fun they had boating last summer, the finalists have been picked! First place goes to Brittany White, 12, of Berlin, CT, who described a delightful day with her family on the Connecticut River:

"I dug my toes into the soft sand and watched the now calm waters of the river glisten and sparkle like diamonds. As darkness drew near I joyfully and thankfully watched the pinks, purples, blues and golden colors of the sky melt together into a picture-perfect sunset. Now I hope you can see why I love our boat so much."

The Second Place prize goes to Brittany Bandi, 10, of New Port Richey, FL, who wrote about a trip out in her family's 19-foot Sunbird.

Three Honorable Mentions are: Claire Elliott, 9, of Savannah, GA; Eric Anderson, of Garden City, NY; and Ashley Davidson, 8, of Bettsville, OH.

Congratulations to all the finalists and to the budding boating journalists who shared their summer memories with BOAT/U.S. Keep your eye out for some more special programs for kids this year!
